Orthopedic Massage

What Is Orthopedic Massage?

Orthopedic Massage (OM) is a type of manual therapy that focuses on the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal dysfunction and pain. In addition to treating specific injuries, OM is used to increase range of motion, decrease and manage pain and restore normal body movement and function. It can also help expedite recovery from an activity or competition and alleviate post exercise soreness.

SMI has developed a unique type of Orthopedic Massage that combines deep tissue sports massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, neural mobilization, Active Release Techniques ® (A.R.T.), joint mobilizations, Kinesio Taping ® and assisted stretching. Clinical treatments may also be supplemented with specific exercises and/or stretches to be done at home. This combination of clinical treatment and a home routine will help result in the best possible outcome.

All SMI therapists are certified with the California Massage Therapy Council and receive ongoing training at SMI to ensure the highest level of quality and care.
